Yes, I will fetch you your horse. But in exchange, you must give me a vial of that horse's bile once I have brought it to you. Once you have done that, I will find you the treasure of a king whose name is lost to all... but me.
~ Shax

Shax is the 44th demonic spirit of the Ars Goetia. He is a great Marquis or Duke and appears as a stock dove and speaks with a hoarse, subtle voice.

Description[]

His office is to take away the sight, hearing, and understanding of any man or woman at the command of the summoner. He can also steal money out of kings' houses and carry it again in 1200 years and can also fetch horses or many things at the command of the summoner.

He must be forced into a triangle first or he will deceive the summoner and tell many lies. He can discover all things that are hidden and not kept by wicked spirits and sometimes bestows good familiars. He commands 30 legions of spirits.

History[]

Background[]

Like many of his fellow goetials, Shax was an angel residing in Heaven though it is unknown as to which choir he was in. Either way, Shax like all the rebel angels was banished from Heaven with Lucifer as punishment for rebelling against God. He was one of the few that was not particularly fond of their current predicament and has grown to deeply resent Beelzebub for suggesting to Lucifer and Satan to strike at the heart of God's work thereby ensuring their total damnation.

Soul of Venice[]

Shax was summoned and bound by the Italian vampire Romulus Diovanni, who hoped to strike a bargain with the demon. The vampire would offer him the soul of Cloacina, the Roman goddess of canals and the patron deity of Venice whom he had captured, in exchange for power to rule the world. Shax himself was not impressed by the vampire, demanding to be released and even mocking him as a scavenger and bottom feeder.

Meanwhile Roger the Homunculus, a member of B.P.R.D., managed to release Cloacina, who in turn used her divine light to vaporize Diovanni to a pile of bones. One of these falling bones would break the binding seal and free Shax, who then asked Roger about if Hellboy, the son of Azazel, was with him. After hearing that Hellboy was not with Roger's unit, the demon departed for, but asked the homunculus to pass a greeting for the cambion.
